Lamp Heating Spot Heater HSH-120
High temperature heating by condensing the light of the halogen lamp Halogen lamp spot heater with outer diameter of ø4.72 in (120 mm) series Condensed light diameter of the 100V-1kW lamp with a focal length of 1.77 in (45 mm) is approximately ø0.82 in (21 mm). Heats up to approximately 2192°F (1200ºC) and heating temperature depends on the object to be heated.
Low cost compared to other methods.
To ensure reliable high temperature heating, a little ingenuity is required along with the selection of the heater. Also examine “Cavity heating method”.
Basically water cooling is used, but the main body temperature will be within 212°F (100ºC) when the lamp used is 500 W, and water cooling may not be required. In case of long continuous lighting with a 1 kW lamp, water cooling is mandatory.
The cooling water quantity must be 0.13 gal/min (0.5 L/min) for each 1 kW, or use temperature rise must be less than 50°F (10ºC) as a guide.The cooling methods piped air cooling or fan cooling which are described later can be selected instead of water cooling.

Standard product HSH-120 for short focal point Short focus
Standard products are f = 45 mm and f = 100 mm, 0.39 in (10 mm) to 5.90 in (150 mm) can also be supplied. However, longer the focal point, larger will be the condensed light diameter, and the temperature reached will decrease.
The mirror or lamp may get dirty with the smoke from the objects which are heated in case of short focal point, and a front glass (optional) can be attached. Therefore, the effective diameter is ø3.93 in (100 mm) even though the mirror outside diameter is ø4.72 in (120 mm).
The airtightness of the water cooling pipes in the new structure has been made better, and the product can be used inside the vacuum.

Standard product is f =260 mm In case of a long focal length, having a slightly bigger mirror effective diameter is better, therefore the front glass is not provided. The chances for the mirror or lamp to get dirty with the smoke from the objects which are heated is less. The airtightness of the water cooling pipe structure has been made better, and using of the product inside vacuum is supported.

The one touch fittings shown in the figure on the left are not provided as standard accessories. However, they may be sometimes attached to check the product.

Information on cooling of halogen spot heaters
Halogen spot heaters require forced cooling depending on the situation. In case of HSH-120, forced cooling is not required for continuous lighting up to 500 W.
However, some sort of forced cooling is required for continuous lighting with 1 kW.
HSH-120 is provided with water cooling as standard, air cooling and fan cooling can also be selected. In case of water cooling, running tap water or circulating coolant is passed for the normal specification product.
The required amount of cooling water is 0.13 gal/min (0.5 L/min) for each 100 W of lamp power.
Air cooling and fan cooling systems are as shown in the figure below. The air cooling system cools by passing air in pipes. The required air quantity is 31.7 gal/min (120 L/min) for each 1 kW. A DC fan is provided for fan cooling system in case of HSH-60. To use, connect this fan to a DC power supply of the specified voltage. |
